This term were working together to generate a new game idea, create characters, a plot and game  challenges.  Once created - written, filmed or drawn, we’ll pitch the idea to a Melbourne based game design company to develop.  Best case scenario; If they wanted to develop our game concept, we’ll ask for royalties.

What’s the point of this group?

This group has a few goals.

Firstly, many young people would love to pursue a career in game design.  To do that successfully, you need to understand how to develop an original idea.  That means, you cant just create something that’s already out there.  Our first goal is to be original so we’ll develop our skills for flexible thinking, creativity and imagination. We’ll be using these skills to create interesting characters, scenes and game challenges.

Our second goal is to turn the idea into a written or drawn concept that we can pitch to a Melbourne based gaming company.  We need to work together to decide how to best communicate our ideas.

Our third goal is to make sure I’m providing everyone with skills and strategies to work together well so that we can achieve our project.  These are the same set of skills that you can use to work well in groups at school, in your future jobs, and even in your families and with friends.

Just a quick note; For those of you who can’t imagine coming to The Social Learning Studio without a visit to 7/11 with your group mates, don’t worry, pizza and snacks can help to get our thinking juices flowing.  Sometimes, we’ll be heading out for a snack purchase, or working while snacking on some take-away.  So, you might need to bring your own money sometimes too.

Cost: $500 for the 5 week program and individual feedback session.  Participants will also require their own money (up to $15 each week) to order and pay for their own meals and activities.

With a Valid Mental Health Care Plan - A Medicare Rebate will apply to group sessions with 6 or more participants present (app: $20 per session).   A Medicare Rebate will also apply for the Individual Feedback Session with a valid Mental Health Care Plan (app: $84.00).

Written reports at the conclusion of the program are charged at $140 each plus GST if requested.
